The Quarterly No. 1: Bay City

We experience elusive, peaceful presence and it’s either over the Maine scallops or our third Gin-Soaked Girl that we say, “What if we did this quarterly?”

I first met Sydney, a director at the University of Michigan Museum of Art, in college and we bonded in Europe over coffee and exquisite food. As the years passed and careers and relationships became priority, the calling to experience beauty and intentional spaces continued to rumble.

Fast-forward to 2021 after the U.S. reopened and we book an Airbnb just a few hours north in Bay City.

What we were given that weekend is what we received when we first traveled together—sensory stimulation, deep conversation and quiet minds. We were recreating ourselves on a cellular level.

Now we prioritize a weekend away every quarter with each other, and chock it full with coffee, art, shopping and champagne.

My hope is having The Quarterly inspire you to recognize your own recreational experiences and return to them again and again.
